Thomas Tuchel confirms 5 players who will not travel to Russia

Chelsea’s squad is being stretched to its limit by the fixture list and by injuries in key positions.

What’s the last thing they need right now? A game in Russia, and that’s exactly what they have tomorrow night when they take on Zenit St Petersburg.

Thomas Tuchel is taking his press conference ahead of the game, and he named 5 Blues who won’t even bother making the journey due to their existing injuries.

“Ben Chilwell is out, N’Golo is out, Trevoh Chalobah is out, Mateo Kovacic is out, and Jorginho is out,” the coach said in quotes picked up by Football.London.

That is a flush of 3 certain starters and two regular first team players. Especially in central midfield, that really cuts down Tuchel’s options, and he will have to use players like Ruben Loftus-Cheek and perhaps Ross Barkley again in order to get through this game.

Thankfully we have already qualified from the group, and coming top is a limited advantage, so all 5 of these guys and plenty more besides can safely be left at home.
