Chelsea are in a very sticky situation with their contracts, as several first team defenders enter the last 6 months of their deal at the same time.
They’re not the only club around with these issues though – Barcelona have spent a year trying to slash their wage bill and now find themselves desperate to keep other players who could leave for free.
That includes Ousmane Dembele, who is free to walk away at the end of this season, and SportWitness have translated quotes from Spain which claim that Chelsea are on the list of teams interested.
It doesn’t really make sense for us from a squad planning point of view, and in fact the whole concept seems to be based just on the idea that Tuchel managed Dembele at Borussia Dortmund all those years ago.
He certainly got the best out of him back then – but this is a very different situation.
