Kai Havertz has “huge pain” and Marcos Alonso has back issue

It’s panic stations at Chelsea at the moment.

Every week we take one step forward and two steps back on the injury front. We had been waiting for the right moment to throw Romelu Lukaku into the action, but today he was forced into the game early because of an injury to Kai Havertz.

The German attacker turned his ankle horribly right on the verge of half time, and didn’t reappear for the second half.

Speaking to the press after the game in quotes picked up by Football.London, manager Thomas Tuchel was glum about his team’s injury situation.

“Kai has huge pain,” he said, before adding that Marcos Alonso’s substitution was down to a back issue.

N’Golo Kante is out and Tuchel says he doesn’t know when he will be back, plus Mateo Kovacic has been out for five or six weeks.

As a cherry on top, Jorginho has been playing with a hip injury, and according to Tuchel, “you can see it.”

The mood has turned very dark at Stamford Bridge, after the highs of beating Juventus last week.
