Hakim Ziyech would “love” Ajax return, “one day”

SportWitness have done their standard Monday sweep of the international press, and dug up something interesting in Holland.

Hakim Ziyech has really been earning his stripes of late at Chelsea, taking advantage of injures in the front 3 to lock his place down for an extended period, scoring his first Premier League goal of the season and contributing off the bench too.

So what better time to start talking about a return to your former club?

“I would love to [return],” he’s quoted as saying.

“I had a fantastic time there. It’s a place where I have felt at home, and whether it will ever happen, the future will tell. But, if it is up to me, it will definitely happen.

“What the future brings, we’ll see then. But, like I said, I hope it happens one day. Whether it will happen is not up to me.”

To be fair to him, it’s very theoretical and very speculative. He loved Ajax and he doesn’t mean he’s going to try and push for a move in January, he’s talking about the future.

But still, it would be nice to hear him talk about how committed he is to making things work at Chelsea rather than how much he loved his club before.

His slightly shy personality makes it hard for fans to warm to him, so he will have to do his persuasion on the pitch if he really wants Blues fans to start showing him the love his old fans did.
