Current Chelsea scout names ‘next John Terry’ from the academy

You will often hear and see players get labeled ‘the next’ so and so after big stars, and it is quite often written by the media.

But you start to take a lot more notice when the person who makes the ‘next’ claim is actually a current scout at a club, meaning he will be perfectly placed to make the bold predictions about players.

It would be amazing if you guys subscribed for my project over at Si & Dan Talk Chelsea, where we are putting out so much Chelsea content including DAILY Newsletters, exclusive news, breaking news, Podcasts, interviews, inside information, and bringing in some massive guests!

On this occasion we are talking about Chelsea’s rising academy star, Alfie Gilchrist, who ironically actually scored today for the U19s against Zenit.

Chelsea scout Sean Conlon was the one who spotted Gilchrist first and bought him to the club, and he describes him as a player who could be the ‘next John Terry’, which of course is a massive compliment.

“I’ve been doing this for 15 years, so some of my players are starting to get to 18 or 19,” Conlon told Caught Offside.

“Alfie Gilchrist, he’s the Chelsea Under-23s captain. He’s only 18 but he could be the next John Terry, he’s a really good player.

“I’m a huge fan of his. I coached him and spent a lot of time with him. I’m hoping he goes on to do big things. At 18 he’s captain of the Under-23s and I think he’s got great promise, though I’m potentially a bit biased!”

I’m pretty sure you’ll all agree that when a player is compared to our legend Terry, then he is certainly going to be worth keeping a close eye on over the next few years as he develops his game even more.
