Trevoh Chalobah reveals what it’s like to play alongside “idol” Thiago Silva

Most people, including Chelsea fans, expected Trevoh Chalobah to be heading out on loan this season.

Instead, here he is, sitting in a Champions League press conference, taking questions not as someone making up the numbers, but as a genuine first team player for Chelsea.

He won’t play every week, but he’s a trusted deputy, and against Leicester at the weekend he played so well that he’s only increasing the pressure on his competition at centre back.

One of those players alongside him is living legend of the game Thiago Silva, and Chalobah was asked about what it was like playing with him.

His answer was as humble and as enthusiastic as you might expect.

“Thiago Silva was one of my idols growing up as a kid. How successful he’s been… it’s great sharing a pitch and a training sessions with him,” Chalobah said in quoted picked up by Football.London.

“For me as a young player it’s someone who I need to look at for where I want to be and where I want to go to.”

What’s incredible is that, for all of the success Silva has had in his career, he had a few false starts early on.

Trevoh on the other hand has had a steady rise to success. If he continues on this path – and continues following Silva’s example – there’s no telling how good he can be.
