Trevoh Chalobah got a start for Chelsea last week after the international break, keeping first team regulars Cesar Azpilicueta and Andreas Christensen out of the team.
It was surprising, but it wasn’t totally crazy. That in itself shows how far young Chalobah has come this season. In an interview recently the kid said that it was amazing for him to be playing alongside one of his idols Thiago Silva, and now the Brazilian has returned the compliments.
“He is a player despite being so young who plays like an experienced professional,’ says the Brazilian, ‘and that makes me really happy because I’m there alongside him playing the same position and I can see how he’s performing, how he’s developing,” Silva said in quotes on the Chelsea official website.
“Not just anybody can do this, can step up to a team like Chelsea and perform and he’s not doing it because of my help, he’s doing it because of his own abilities. He is a player who I knew from France where he was playing at a lower level for Lorient and he’s made the step up and he’s playing here because he deserves to.
“Some people said that he didn’t have the ability to do so but he’s made it because of his own capacities. That’s something that makes me really happy because a player like Trevoh Chalobah is the future of this club.”
It’s heart warming to hear him praise the academy product like that, and it’s great validation for the whole project.
We’re not yet certain whether Chaobah will keep his place in the team tonight – but if he does it will be well deserved, and he will surely be playing with a spring in his step after this amazing praise from a man he has himself called a hero.
