Jody Morris regrets not giving Billy Gilmour more starts in Chelsea era

Jody Morris has some interesting quotes out there on the subject of Billy Gilmour, who has been in the news in Chelsea circles recently.

The midfielder went on loan to Norwich this season, and was supposed to play every game. But the Canaries’ struggles have meant he’s out of the side, with limited chances of returning it seems.

A manger change might bring new game time, and Frank Lampard has been linked to the role. Lampard, along with his assistant Morris, gave Gilmour his first starts at Chelsea – although in quotes picked up by Football.London he reveals he wishes he had given him more:

“When I look back, if anything, when Frank and I were in charge he should’ve played more,” Morris explained.

“We’d walk off the training pitch and Frank would say: ‘Billy, best player again’. Whether it was technical, tactical, going in against experienced lads, Frank got more and more impressed. When we started giving him minutes, we could see it was where he belonged.”

At the time, Chelsea fans were screaming for the same thing. Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic had some shocking games, and N’Golo Kante was often out injured.

Whenever Billy got a game, he shone. Let’s hope he can perform the same way with a new coach at Norwich.
