Brendan Rodgers denies Wesley Fofana to Chelsea links twice

Brendan Rodgers has said he doesn’t know anything about a Chelsea approach for Wesley Fofana.

The defender’s name has suddenly bubbled up in recent days in connection with the Blues after he named us a “dream club” he would like to play for in a recent interview.

Rodgers was of course asked about that straight away in his press conference today, and he batted it off pretty flatly, saying he didn’t know anything “at all” about an approach, in quotes picked up by the Leicester Mercury.

The questions came round again later on, when both Fofana and Kasper Schmeichel’s futures were brought up after they did interviews in the international break.

“I’ve not seen either of the interviews. Wesley has made great strides. Every player will want to be at the highest level, but it doesn’t mean they’re thinking about leaving here to do that,” the ever tactful Rodgers said.

“We’ve won silverware and want to see if we can win more. Wesley is committed to here and we can’t wait to have him back.”

It doesn’t sound like things are too advanced, and the idea we might have made an approach (at least anything serious) seems a stretch at this point.

But we will definitely be listening closely to future Rodgers press conferences to see if his stance changes.
