Timo Werner joins Romelu Lukaku on growing Chelsea injury list

Chelsea are two goals up, but more importantly they’re now two players  down.

Romelu Lukaku was the first to go, limping off after a bad tackle from a Malmo defender. But no sooner had the striker been subbed off, then we saw Timo Werner join him

The German striker pulled up touching his hamstring after another rapid dash into the box, and you’d have to think that’s a couple of weeks out even in the best case scenario.

The Blues are now back to the strikerless setup we saw last season, although this time against their will. It will be interesting to see how Thomas Tuchel adapts his system without the pair, but really the only option is to use Kai Havertz as a false 9.

You’ve then got Mason Mount in behind him, along with one of Hakim Ziyech, Callum Hudson-Odoi or perhaps even Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

No matter the result tonight, it’s not been a good night for Chelsea.
