‘They did it today’ – Thomas Tuchel names the two players that could fill Lukaku and Werner void

With misfortune for some, often comes opportunities for others.

And although we are truly gutted to see Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner go off injured in the 4-0 win over Malmo in the Champions League group stages last night and potentially miss some Chelsea games coming up, it did create opportunities for both Callum Hudson-Odoi and Kai Havertz to get some minutes, with both players having mainly had to watch on from the sidelines recently.

Both players did well, linking up to get Chelsea’s third goal superbly. Hudson-Odoi with a trademark drive forward with the ball down his preferred attacking left position, setting up Havertz to provide a lovely little finish.

Tuchel was pleased with both players, and speaking after the game about solutions to Werner and Lukaku potentially being out for the next matches, both these players came up as potential options.

As reported by Football London, Tuchel answered whether Hudson-Odoi and Havertz can now prove a point:

“They can prove a point now so we will have some games without Romelu and Timo so everyone is invited to join the race for minutes on the pitch.

“When they are on the pitch, they need to show their hunger and determination to be decisive and be in the box.

“This is how it is and they did it today but there’s still room to improve and on Saturday we need the same hunger and determination from whoever starts for us because we need goals to win matches. We need to find solutions without Romelu and Timo, that’s clear. Everyone will join the race to be decisive for us.”
