“They can be really proud” – Two Chelsea youngsters praised by Gary Neville

Malang Sarr and Trevoh Chalobah can be “really proud of themselves” after stepping in to help Chelsea beat Brentford, said Sky pundit Gary Neville, in quotes carried by The Metro.

“They did really really well, that was as tough a game as you can have as a centre back,” Neville raved.

“I saw Arsenal’s centre-backs here get absolutely messed about by those two. So for Chalobah and Sarr to come here today with a lot of expectation, I think they can be really proud tonight.”

The pair were only in the team because of a slew of absences at the back – Thiago Silva, Antonio Rudiger and Reece James all had to be out at the same time for it to happen, but Thomas Tuchel wasn’t afraid to turn to his young defenders, and they did him proud.

The German coach’s system helps the central defends a lot by protecting them, but stepping into a game like this was no easy feat for the pair, and they kept Brentford at bay.

Their contributions were vital for the three points, and whether or not they continue to play regularly this season, they’ve done their bit to help the team.

Chalobah in particular looks set to have plenty of appearances to come.
