Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s playmaking ability comes to the fore at last

Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s return to the team has seen him playing as a deep lying playmaker, and that was never more than from the stats from last night.

Chelsea were able to hold on to beat a spirited Brentford team, with RLC one of their best players.

According to FBRef, only centre back Andreas Christensen played more passes (70) than Loftus-Cheek last night (61), and his 89.7% completion rate show he wasn’t wasting it.

The team couldn’t get into gear in attack thanks to the fearsome press of the Bees, who were relatively fit and fresh after the international break, as opposed to a weakened Chelsea. But that was no knock on the midfielder, who did well moving the ball forward when he could.

His aerial presence was a real boost to the team too.

Jorginho has had a fantastic season, but he is going to have to fight very hard to get his place back now.
