Romelu Lukaku dominates Chelsea’s attacking threat despite slowing form

When Romelu Lukaku started his second spell at Chelsea with a goal, we thought he could be in for a record season.

Instead, we all had to be realistic – we were playing Arsenal after all. It wasn’t always going to be that easy.

Since then the striker’s rate has slowed, and he hasn’t scored in the league for a few games now. Despite that, he’s the Chelsea player creating the most threat statistically, according to FBRef.

He’s had a nice round 5.0 expected goals and assists in total this season (penalties excluded), almost double Mason Mount’s 2.7 in second place. It just goes to show, while there’s plenty to be done in terms of building his chemistry with his fellow forwards, he’s still very much the focal point of the team already.

Once everyone else is on the same wavelength, the goals will be flowing once again, and it will be like playing Arsenal every week.
