Chelsea’s current defender situation is rather up in the air right now, with a number of players in the final year of their deals at the club.
From January they are able to agree a pre-contract with a new club to sign with them as a free agent in the summer, so the situation isn’t ideal for Chelsea right now.

Thiago Silva, Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger, and Cesar Azpilicueta are all in the final year of their deals at Stamford Bridge.
One of them though, is now very close to being agreed, according to Footy Insider.
They claim that a Chelsea source has told them that after a new dialogue with Christensen’s father and the club, a breakthrough has been made and the deal is now close to being agreed.
This will be massive news for Chelsea and would at least mean they would have one less defender to worry about if they can get this tied over.
