Petr Cech praises two Chelsea players for breakout performances

Petr Cech wasn’t just a legendary goalkeeper for Chelsea, he’s now an excellent director of football for us – and as it turns out, a good columnist too.

He writes a weekly effort on the Chelsea FC official website, and this time his attentions are on the international break and the lucky 1-0 win over Brentford that followed.

In particular, Cech picked out two players he thought had done well in the game – the two players who were drafted in to play after not going on international break with their nations teams.

“For 70 minutes we were completely in charge and it was really nice to see other players coming in – you had Malang, Trevoh and Ruben starting, because they were the players who trained the two weeks while everybody else was travelling and playing for their national team. They stepped up and they had a very good game,” Cech explained.

The pair couldn’t have done more to endear themselves to the manager. Ruben has played a few games now, and done really well in each of them. He will have forced his way into Thomas Tuchel’s plans at this stage, regardless of international breaks and so on.

Now we will see if Malang can do the same.
