“I’ve seen an evolution” – Roberto Martinez details how you get the best out of Romelu Lukaku

If there is one man who is qualified to talk about Romelu Lukaku then it is a man who has worked with him since he was 19-years old.

Belgium boss Roberto Martinez says he has seen the evolution of Chelsea’s new striker, who of course is also their former striker.

Martinez was in charge of Everton when he had Lukaku up top for him in 2013, and now of course he manages him in the national side.

There has been a lot of debate recently on how best to use Lukaku and how to get the best out of him, and even debates on his style of play and what his strengths are.

The bottom line is he will score goals for fun, but you need to get him opportunities to do so. It is early doors at Chelsea right now of course, but Lukaku has cut a frustrated figure in recent games with a lack of service.

“I started working with Romelu when he was 19,” said Martinez as reported by The Daily Mail.

“As with any player, I’ve seen an evolution.

“He can do everything you want from a striker. He can play with his back to goal or run in behind. He has power and intelligence. He has every single function you would want from a centre-forward.

“His time in Italy with Inter Milan gave him another degree of maturity and this is a great moment in his career and the most outstanding thing about him is his goalscoring.

“His conversion rate is exceptional. Look at his goals, he is already the record scorer for the national team, and you will get the best out of him when you put him in those positions.”
