Chelsea’s 5 most dangerous players this season according to stats

Chelsea are top of the table, so nobody is complaining, but there are big issues with this team that need to be fixed.

That is clear to anyone who watches them, and even to anyone who listened to Thomas Tuchel’s press conference today.

They’re defending well, but not creating enough in attack.

So statistically speaking, who is doing the most work?

According to FBRef’s expected goal stats, excluding penalties, Romelu Lukaku is clearly our most dangerous player.

He has 5.1 expected goals plus assists this season.

Second is Mason Mount, on 2.7, despite his poor form.

Then there’s Timo Werner in 2.4, and Mateo Kovacic on 2.1, before there’s a steep drop off.

The fact that Mount is not having a good season, and also has missed a few games, but is still our second most threatening player, is very concerning.

Others further down this list – Kai Havertz, CHO and Hakim Ziyech in particular, are going to have to step their game up in this week’s fixtures.
