Chelsea offered £280,000 a week defender as potential Christensen replacement

Chelsea have a serious situation developing at centre back.

After a year where they’ve had pretty much the best defensive record possible, two of their first choice options are coming to the end of their contracts.

It’s a messy problem, but there are solutions. We’re sure that either Antonio Rudiger or Andreas Christensen will sign a new deal – and perhaps both will. But if they don’t there are alternatives.

In their article about Christensen’s standoff, Goal.com say that Matthijs de Ligt is a potential target for the Blues if they lose one of their starters. He would be a very expensive option, given he’s already on serious money at Juventus (£280.000 according to Goal), and we would have to buy him off them, but two first team starters leaving would certainly clear some room on the wage bill.

If it was down to us, though – we would stick with what we have.
