5 Chelsea stars nominated for Ballon d’Or after Champions League win

Success as a team in football always brings individual rewards, and that’s exactly what has happened to Chelsea’s Champions League winning team from last season.

The Blues were the ultimate team – relying on the way players played together rather than any individuals in particular. Their goals were shared between the team, which was as reliant on structure and tactical instruction more than inspired individuals.

Now it’s Ballon d’Or season though, and 4 of that victorious Chelsea XI have been nominated for the grand prize by France Football – plus one of their new additions.

Mason Mount, Jorginho, Cesar Azpilicueta and N’Golo Kante are all up for the award, along with summer signing Romelu Lukaku.

Any would be a worthy winner, but it’s hard to look past Kante. His inspirational performances in the knockout rounds of Europe’s top competitions set his team up to lift the trophy, and he deserves individual recognition for a marvellous career so far.
