“We lacked” – Andreas Christensen dissects Chelsea defeat to Manchester City

Chelsea suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday, losing 1-0 to Manchester City.

The game was hugely one-sided and it was surprising to see the lack of fight and intensity from a very defensive looking Chelsea setup.

Thomas Tuchel has spoken about City wanting it more and it really was that simple when it comes down to it.

Chelsea have proven last season on three occasions that they have the quality to beat Manchester City, but it was certainly an off day for them on this occasion and it was City who more than turned up ready to win and go away with all three points.

Defender Andreas Christensen has been in some fine form since Tuchel arrived at the club last January, and he has been dissecting the game on the Chelsea website today.

He admitted that his team lacked their usual intensity on Saturday, which has been rare recently.

“It’s not nice to lose our first match,” said Christensen.

“It was a tough match to get into and it was only after their goal that we came alive, but by then it was too late really.

“We came into the game quite strongly, but they were better on the day. It was always going to be a tough game. We feel like we gave the first half away a little bit and we got into the game too late. It felt like we lacked a bit of everything, especially in the first half.

“As soon as we got on the ball in the first half, we had no options really. We lacked a bit of intensity, energy going forward, a bit of composure on the ball. We lacked what we usually have on the ball, so it was a bit of everything and it’s disappointing but we’re looking forward.”
