Thomas Tuchel has been speaking to Chelsea’s in house media channels before kick off, and he was able to explain why Thiago Silva isn’t starting for his team today.
It wasn’t all that surprising to see the Brazilian left out, given he’s 37 and we play Juventus in midweek. But it turns out it wasn’t just a matter of rotation – Tuchel admitted that the centre back has a small knock which is keeping him out, just like teammate Mason Mount.
“Thiago had some issues yesterday in training, otherwise he would have started,” Tuchel explained in quotes on the Fifth Stand app.
Thomas Tuchel on N’Golo Kante and Thiago Silva:
“We are happy that N’Golo can play but unfortunately Thiago had some issues yesterday in training, otherwise he would have started.”

Either way, we’ve got quality defenders who can win us the game regardless. Effectively, it just means adding Reece James’ threat to our right hand side.
Let’s hope the inspirational veteran is ready to take on Juve next week – and that the guys on the pitch today can get the job done without him. We have full faith that they can.
