Thomas Tuchel hints at agent issues as Chelsea struggle for Antonio Rudiger contract solution

Press conferences are never easy, even when your team is winning every week, and Thomas Tuchel knows it.

His Blues team are reigning Champions League holders, and have started this season unbeaten in all competitions – but there’s still always a journalist around to find the negative angle on any subject.

Antonio Rudiger has been instrumental in that strong start, and has been playing as well as ever in these last few weeks. The problem is that his contract expires next summer, and he can speak to clubs abroad about a free transfer from January.

Tuchel was asked about whether he was confident that the defender would eventually be tied down to a new deal, and in quotes picked up by Football.London he immediately responded by pointing out that it wasn’t just down to the coach and the player, it was down to “the club and the player and the agent,” perhaps hinting that Rudiger’s representatives are the ones holding up a deal with their demands.
