Pep’s “long ball” jibes show he’s still angry about Champions League loss

Pep Guardiola’s teams have played some of the most intense and entertaining football ever seen, but the manager provides plenty of the fun off the pitch too.

His highly strung and obsessive personality means that he doesn’t take kindly to losing in any game, and the defeat to Chelsea in the Champions League final has clearly cut him deep.

His quotes ahead of tomorrow’s clash between the teams make it clear that May’s result still stings him. In quotes you can read below, he points out Chelsea’s “long balls” were what made the difference in Porto.

Maybe he doesn’t mean it as an insult, but when the way Pep says things often means they come out like that. It’s certainly hard to image the master of tiki-taka mentioning “long balls” without a slight sneer.

In any case, City get their chance for revenge at 12.30 tomorrow. Thomas Tuchel’s long-ball Blues will be ready for them.
