Olivier Giroud breaks silence on why he left Chelsea

As far as club servants go, Olivier Giroud was one of the best around for Chelsea during his time at the club.

He was adored by Blues fans and was decisive in so many games helping Chelsea be successful and win trophies.

He will certainly be forever fondly remembered at Stamford Bridge, and him leaving the club this summer was hard to swallow.

But all the same, I think we all knew that it had to happen that window, and we were amazed that he hadn’t left the club sooner. He hadn’t ever really been the regular number one striker at the club and you could see he just wanted to get more minutes in this latter stage of his career.

Giroud’s decision to join AC Milan this summer is proving to be a good one, with him scoring 2 goals in 4 appearances so far.

He has been reflecting on this decision, as reported by WAGNH.

“I liked the Premier League, but at some point, I had to make a decision. I told Tuchel that the last three months had been too difficult.

“It was an obvious choice to leave Chelsea, I moved on with great emotion for all the moments we lived. Some were good, some others not as much, but we won three important titles.

Zlatan is a legend and there will be a real competition between us. I can score at least 15 goals, that’s what I hope. If I play every game, that’s what I expect.

“I hope [we can win the Scudetto], we have the quality and young players. It’s a clear target we have.”
