Transfer deadline day was certainly a very dramatic one for Chelsea and Blues fans that’s for sure.
We expected we might be a little busy, but nobody predicted us to be involved in a deal that literally went down to the wire.
Three minutes before the transfer deadline was closing is when Chelsea finally wrapped up the deal, according to Atletico Madrid’s President Enrique Cerezo.
He says the deal was ‘completed around 11.57’ and that defines the expression ‘squeaky bum time!’

Obviously being in Spain there is an hour difference so in the UK this would have meant 10.57.
Either way, this was a very late deal to get done.
Cerezo also confirms that it was Saul that wanted to leave the club for a new challenge, meaning a move to Chelsea would have been a pretty easy one for club and player to complete, especially as it was just a loan move.
