Chelsea draw Southampton in Carabao Cup 5th Round

Chelsea have drawn Southampton in the Carabao Cup fifth round.

The Blues were taken to penalties by a really impressive Aston Villa team, while the Saints also went to spot kicks, against Sheffield United.

We’ve already gone further this year than we did last year, where a brutal defeat to Tottenham knocked us out early.

Thomas Tuchel will see this competition’s early final as the perfect chance to pick up his third piece of silverware in what would be his 13th month at the club – that’s a truly amazing record.

But Southampton will be no pushover – Ralph Hassenhuttl has them well drilled and with plenty of talent. If Tuchel puts out another half strength team as he did today, the Blues will have difficulties once again.

On the other hand, it’s great to see these rotation options and youngsters getting their chance – it’s just a question of how many risks the manager wants to take.

  1. Will be hard game and Saints are playing very well.
Could well have beaten city, blatant penalty not given we’ll have to be on our game.
