One of the surprise hits of the loan arms last season, Ike Ugbo is now close to a permanent move away from Chelsea.
The striker had bounced around in the lower leagues for some years after never looking like a potential star in the youth teams at Cobham. A late bloomer, he shone on loan at Cercle Brugge last season with 17 goals in 34 appearances, and has earned a move to a bigger side.
Top of the list are Genk, currently dominating Belgian football and looking to weaken a rival as well as strengthen their own team. Football.London report that he’s “very close” to leaving Stamford Bridge.
They cite sportlens in saying that the forward has already agreed personal terms, and it’s just a matter of the Blues hammering out the final terms of the transfer – likely to include a sell on clause and significant future interests for Chelsea.
This should be wrapped up this week.
