Roman Abramovich is ‘a huge admirer’ of player ‘being worked on in the background’

Chelsea have been linked with a number of players already this transfer window but have yet to make an solid advances to sign anyone.

There are a few areas that Thomas Tuchel is looking to improve in, and one of those in particular is the striker position.

Erling Haaland is the primary target as reported by pretty much every reliable source out there right now, but he seems a tough deal to pull off. The talk then goes straight to Romelu Lukaku of Inter Milan, but even that seems tough.

Or is it? Well, according to Journalist Dean Jones, who was speaking on The Football Terrace Podcast yesterday, Roman Abramovich could help get that deal done if he wanted to.

Jones says that Abramovich is still ‘a huge admirer’ of Lukaku and he would be ‘perfectly happy’ to bring him back to Stamford Bridge this summer if they cannot sign Haaland.

“Abramovich is also a huge admirer of Lukaku, they’d be perfectly happy if Haaland wasn’t to come to sign Lukaku. That’s also going to be really difficult, I’m not saying that it’s going to be straight forward.

“But that is on the backburner, it’s being worked on in the background.”
