Malang Sarr explains when he knew Chelsea were going to win Champions League

The loanees have flooded back from across Europe to first team training with Chelsea, and Chelsea’s official website is taking its chance to get to know some of them.

First up is Malang Sarr, who arrived on a free transfer last summer but was sent off to Porto almost before he’d set foot in London.

The club got to know him a bit in an interesting interview on their website, and he explains what it was like playing for a team who were beaten by the Blues on their way to lifting the Champions League trophy:

“After the two games [between Chelsea and Porto], I thought Chelsea were going to win it, for sure,” Sarr explained.

“It is very difficult to play against Porto. Teams struggled to match the defensive intensity and stay at the same level. Chelsea were struggling a little, but not as much as the other teams did. They were really solid and they did the job. From then I was sure they would do it.”

The Portuguese side certainly put up an incredibly tough fight – in fact the only game Chelsea lost in the Champions League all season was against Os Dragoes in the second leg to a last minute wondergoal – but it wasn’t enough to knock the Blues out.

Now Sarr gets to come back and show his parent club just what he learned from his season in the Liga NOS.
