“Heartbroken. Nightmare.” – Chelsea fans complain about lack of youth pathway after another academy talent leaves

Chelsea need to sell players, that’s just a fact.

They’re got a seriously bloated squad, and a strong need to balance the books. But do they really have to sell our talented youth players, rather than the useless squad players and perennials loanees still kicking around? That’s what lots of Blues fans are asking on social media.

We’ve just heard the news about Marc Guehi leaving for Crystal Palace, and Fikayo Tomori’s move to Milan was completed a while ago. They won’t be the last to go this summer, while Danny Drinkwater and Davide Zappacosta enjoy preseason with Thomas Tuchel.

There’s more to it than that of course, but it’s definitely not a good look for the club, who had made such strides towards integrating youth players under Frank Lampard. Are they ready to blow that plan up after so much success? “Heartbroken… nightmare,” said Alex Goldberg, reflecting the thoughts of many others.

  1. does it ever occur to these silly twitter people that chelsea management see these players a lot more than they do? Or that not everyone can get into the squad or the first team? Twitter is for emotional morons who can’t contain themselves like little kids who have to go wee-wee right now!
