Eden Hazard reported to be available for transfer – but Chelsea won’t go back

This time a year ago, Chelsea were announcing the signing of Thiago Silva, a once world-class player who many thought was now washed up, at least on the way down in his career.

That ended up to be very far from the truth. Silva was brilliant, and his leadership helped inspire Thomas Tuchel’s team to Champions League glory.

Would they be tempted to repeat the same trick with Eden Hazard if the opportunity was there? It would certainly be worth thinking about. The Daily Mirror today claim that the winger, who has had two seasons of struggles in the Spanish capital since leaving Chelsea, has been put on the transfer list.

It’s a lovely thought – the former Blue coming back in a blaze of glory – but we can’t see it ending the same way the Silva story did.

Hazard is too knackered by broken ankles and bad tackles to ever get his explosiveness back, and without that there’s only so useful he can be in a Tuchel team.
