Chelsea to try and repeat Pedro trick as they wedge themselves into Varane equation

Chelsea have entered the race to sign Raphael Varane, according to reports carried by Football.London.

Manchester United have been heavily linked with the central defender for weeks, and it sounded very much like a deal was close for the Real Madrid star.

But now Chelsea are suddenly appearing in reports about the deal, with Football.London writing that the Blues are keen to repeat the trick they pulled with Pedro in 2015.

In that case, they allowed United to get close to their long term target, with chief executive Ed Woodward even having flown to Barcelona before Chelsea made the decisive move to secure the winger’s signature.

As it stands, we’re not sure how likely that is. It sounds more like our name is being used either by Real Madrid to jack the price up, or by Varane’s people to push for higher wages.

But don’t be surprised if we suddenly see him holding up a Blue shirt in a couple of weeks, after all.
