Chelsea shaping up bid for Aurelien Tchouameni should Declan Rice deal not work out

The worst thing any football team can do is put all their eggs in one basket.

Setting everything up for one transfer is almost always a mistake, as there are just too many moving parts to guarantee anything at the top level. From injuries to petro-state run clubs outbidding you, anything is possible at any moment.

No wonder, then, that Chelsea are working on a deal for Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni at the moment. We all know Declan Rice is their top target, but they simply can’t count on getting him.

The Athletic today report that, given the circumstances and West Ham’s significant remaining bargaining power, Chelsea are maintaining an interest in Tchouameni, who is showing himself to be a real prospect in Ligue 1.

There are lots of fans who would actually rather see the Blues sign the Frenchman than Rice, but that’s another story.

We’re just glad to hear that behind the scenes, multiple scenarios are being worked on.

  1. There is no Declan rice deal. And wont be. Eventually the penny will drop. Had 2 years of this. As rice is still at West Ham -still not for sale-says it all. As i say eventually !
