Reece James says he has weekly talks with Chelsea legend to help his development

Reece James has had an incredible rise to the top at Chelsea in just two seasons in the senior setup at the club.

Only recently he was plying his trade on loan in the Championship at Wigan, and since then he has become a European Champion for Chelsea and has been performing as one of their consistently best players over the last couple of seasons.

He is now ready to play in his first major tournament for his country this summer in the Euros, and he looks fully ready and focused to win even more honours for club and country over the next years.

One of the keys to his success? Speaking weekly to Chelsea legend Ashley Cole, according to James himself, who was interviewed via TalkSport yesterday.

James says that his chats with Cole helps him ‘progress a lot’ with his own game, and he takes on board what the legend tells him. He couldn’t pick a better mentor!

James said: “When I was young I wasn’t always a right back.

“I was a striker. But I’ve always looked up to Frank Lampard because he played for the club I supported, Ashley Cole similar.

“So I’ve always supported the boys who played for the team I supported.

“[With Cole], we speak nearly every week. He’s probably one of the best left-backs to play the game.

“Even though he was a left-back the position is basically the same, just on the opposite side. He helps me a lot progressing.”
