Rangers set for “significant” payment from Chelsea thanks to Billy Gilmour rise to prominence

Billy Gilmour’s arrival at Chelsea was not particularly heralded – he was a raw teenager after all – but since the day he arrived at the club’s he’s impressed absolutely everyone, and one bad knee injury aside, it’s been a steady rise to new heights.

The latest achievement was a full Scotland debut, followed by a second appearance last week. He’s been called up for the European Championships, and will likely make his tournament debut at some point in the next month.

That’s good news for Billy, good news for Chelsea, good news for Scotland – and good news for Rangers too. In a really interesting feature in The Athletic about the midfielder, it was revealed that his former club would receive a “significant” payment from the Blues as the wonderkid triggers another positive objective in the ongoing deal between the two closely-linked clubs.

The sky is the limit for Billy, and it’s only fair that Rangers get their fair reward for developing such a gem.
