Jose Mourinho calls Chelsea man’s attacking output “poor” after England draw

Jose Mourinho’s stint on TalkSport is providing tons of fascinating snippets for us to look at, especially when it comes to England.

The former Chelsea boss is always asked to give his take on the national team, and his words carry a lot of weight.

The Three Lions’ draw with Scotland didn’t impress many viewers, and Mourinho called out a Chelsea man for not bringing enough to the table as Gareth Southgate’s team struggled to create chances.

Football.London had all the quotes from the Special One as he criticised the performances of England’s full backs, including Chelsea man Reece James:

“I think the confidence of the players (is important). James and Shaw are attacking and fast players,” Mourinho said.

“Normally they go forward and create. They arrive in the box and create. They didn’t against Scotland. They stayed very, very quiet. They didn’t make mistakes. But offensively they were poor.”

We’ve seen Reece maraud forward for us so much that we can’t help feel it was instructions from the coaching staff holding him back. But he’s still not played much for England, and it’s perfectly possible he just felt more cautious than he does for Chelsea, where he’s as comfortable as can be.
