Jose Mourinho admits Mason Mount surprised him and delivers his verdict on the midfielder

Mason Mount lifted his first trophy in senior football just last weekend, and it just so happened to be the greatest honour you can win in domestic football, the Champions League.

It capped off another good season for him in the Premier League, only his second ever, and his consistency paid off.

At such a young age, Mount is now a European Champion, and you just know that this boy will now be fully focused on winning his next trophy, and he’ll be hell bent on that being the Euros.

He has a high belief in his own ability, and Chelsea are lucky to have such a player.

He wasn’t rated as highly as he is now by some pundits and fans in his early days, but even experienced guys like Jose Mourinho are holding their hands up and admitting their surprise.

As portrayed on the Chelsea website, Mourinho was speaking about Mount recently.

He said:

“I have to be honest. I watched him two seasons ago in his first Premier League match against Chelsea at Old Trafford. “I put a question mark over how long this boy would need to develop and become a complete player, it didn’t take long.

“He is an attack-minded player, a creative player, but he has the tactical discipline. He’s a team player. “When they play with a back five he can be the third attacking player or the third midfielder.”
