Why Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson-Odoi deserve more chances next season

Despite the final result of a Champions League trophy lifted, Hakim Ziyech did not have the best debut season at Chelsea.

After a bright start in a couple of games under Frank Lampard where he looked is creative best, he struggled for form in long periods and by the end of the season was definitively behind several other attacking players in the pecking order.

That has lead to whispers he may leave this summer after just a year at the club, but a glance at the stats on FBRef show he may have been better than some give him credit for,

His expected assists per 90 minutes are 0.28, higher than anyone else on the team. His closest competitor is Callum Hudson-Odoi who also fell out of favour, who has 0.26.

The pair of them can count themselves a little unlucky to not have played more, and if they’re both still here next season, we expect to see them get a proper second chance.
