CONFIRMED: Fikayo Tomori makes permanent AC Milan move

Fikayo Tomori has joined AC Milan on a permanent basis after the Italian club paid the clause inserted in his loan deal which began in January.

The defender came through the Chelsea youth academy and really impressed for long periods before losing his place in the team under Frank Lampard at the start of this season.

A move to Milan followed in January, with the loan proving such a success that the Italian club has ultimately paid the €28.5m purchase clause in full.

The success of Chelsea’s defence under Thomas Tuchel this season made it hard to see a space for him in the squad, and he’s clearly fitting in well at his new club.

It’s a blow to Chelsea fans, who all love their youth product and wanted to see him get another chance at Stamford Bridge. Still, seeing him thrive in Italy will be fun in its own way.

Who knows – maybe a glorious return to Stamford Bridge will be on the cards a few years down the line?
