When we initially heard that Chelsea are interested in Achraf Hakimi, it didn’t make much sense to us.
We’ve already got a top right back in Reece James – why do we need another?
But the more that time goes by, and the more we hear about the move, the more convinced we are it’s real. There are so many whispers coming out of Italy that there must be something real at the base of the column of smoke.
SportWitness today have translated reports from the Gazzetta dello Sport where the Italian paper name some of the players Chelsea could try and throw in to swing a deal in their favour.
Some of them are obvious – we’ve been keen to get rid of Emerson Palmieri and Davide Zappacosta for a while now, and a move back to Serie A would be natural for both.
But the third name is more worrying – Andreas Christensen. He really re-emerged as a superb option under Thomas Tuchel this season, and we’d be very reluctant to see him go.
Let’s hope it doesn’t come that, and Inter are satisfied with cash plus some of our cast-offs.
