Billy Gilmour tests positive for coronavirus in another cruel career setback

Billy Gilmour has tested positive for coronavirus, ruling him out of Scotland’s final group game and providing another unfair roadblock in a career that has already had too many.

The Scottish FA today released the information that the midfielder had the virus, and that he would not be available to play against Croatia in the final and decisive Group D match at Hampden Park tomorrow night.

Even if his team miraculously qualify without him, it would be a race against time for Billy to be testing negative and ready to play in the knockout rounds.

Gilmour’s career has already had frustrating setbacks not of his doing – the initial lockdown coming just as he had broken into the Chelsea team, a knee injury preventing him from playing in Project Restart, and now this.

His talent is always going to shine through in the end, but just think how far he could have gone without these hurdles.

Get well soon Billy.
