If you’d said around Christmas time that Antonio Rudiger was considering leaving Chelsea, nobody would have been surprised.
He had played badly during “Project Restart”, was frozen out totally by Frank Lampard, and had been linked with moves away from the club.
The turnaround under Thomas Tuchel was total however, and he ended up playing the best football of his career in a back 3 as the Blues won the Champions League.
He’s still only got a year left on his deal though, and according to The Athletic he’s seriously considering leaving the club despite his recent success.
On the other hand, he sounds open to the idea of staying – if he’s made into a top earner with a long contract.
It’s now a question of the decision makers at the cub deciding what he’s worth to them. He’s proved he can be a top defender, but has also looked comically bad at times. Which is the real Rudiger?
