Video: Timo Werner snatches at early final chance for Chelsea and makes it an easy save for Ederson with lax strike

In the 13th minute of this evening’s all-English Champions League final between Manchester City and Chelsea, the Blues crafted themselves a wonderful chance to take the lead.

The ever-tireless Mason Mount was rewarded for pressing on after Ben Chilwell’s pass was cut out, with the attacking midfielder latching onto the loose ball and driving into the box.

Mount poked the ball to Timo Werner, the striker lost his footing a bit as he controlled the ball before firing a strike right into Ederson’s path, making it a very easy save for the Brazilian down towards the corner.

Werner’s effort didn’t have much power on it and wasn’t struck too sweetly – owing to the difficult first touch, which unfortunately led to a massive early chance squandered.

The Blues have made a very encouraging start to the tie, hopefully Werner can dust himself off after squandering this opportunity, he’s getting into the right areas but needs to nail down his execution better.
