Chelsea have lost their second FA Cup final on the spin, and this time they can feel really unlucky.
The Blues weren’t great in the game, but they had an equaliser in the 91st minute ruled out for an incredibly tight offside.
Ben Chilwell was offside in the frame that VAR judged on – but that was one of various frames they could have chosen.
The Chelsea players had a great celebration in the corner flag, only to find out the goal didn’t count. “The passion killer” one Blue on Twitter called it, and it’s hard to disagree.
Meanwhile on the Leicester goal, there was a handball that wasn’t even checked by the dubious referee assisting technology. So not only is it no fun, it’s no good either. We wish we could get rid of it, and if you were paying attention, you’ll notice we never wanted it in the first place.
You can see a selection of the full time reaction in the clips embedded here:

VAR is not the problem, it is the use of it in England. @ChelseaFC scored a goal that was deemed offside by less than 2mm…think about it. The debate is there for handball on @LCFC as well. #FACupFinal

Can we all unite to get rid of VAR like we did the super league???? 3 days and it’s gone surely

Frustrated. Chelsea lacked a lot most of the game. I’m sure TT is managing fitness levels, but for a cup final it took all the subs and 10 minutes left to show up.
Yes VAR is a joke, but surely we’re better than a VAR review than Leicester, right?#cfc #chelseafc #FACupFinal

Unbelievable big call for VAR … surely it’s got to be exact to the millimetre for a call like that!
The freeze frame used is after the ball has been kicked. #FACupFinal pic.twitter.com/XSfWDk7Tv8— Jonathan Walters (@JonWalters19) May 15, 2021

VAR today….
Ball hits Perez’s arm in the lead up to their goal, overlooked.
Chilwell’s armpit offside, given.
You can’t even celebrate your team scoring a 90th minute equaliser in an FA Cup final anymore.
Get that disaster of an invention out of our game. #CHELEI

Love it how VAR refused to check the handball in the lead up to the Leicester City goal.
Chelsea score and they are ready to dig up the last few matches to see if there is a way to rule it out.

Chelsea didn’t play well enough to win for large stretches of the match, but those two VAR decisions (handball from Perez, offside for Chilwell) further soured the affair.

I may never get over that VAR. But well played and well done Leicester.

Obviously gutted after that ending but good for Leicester. They deserved it on so many levels. What a goal. What a save. What VAR drama. Congratulations @LCFC

Imagine taking out the raw emotion, passion and everything that makes football special with a piece of unreliable technology that doesn’t account for margin of error.
VAR is killing the game.
