Chelsea’s 2012 UCL hero speaks out and makes prediction for this campaign

You guys don’t need me to tell you what a massive game tomorrow night is, I’m sure that just like me, you have already been losing sleep and feeling mixed emotions of nervousness and excitement.

But we are lucky to be playing in domestic football’s biggest competition and not only that, in the final of said competition with a chance to lift the trophy for the second time in our history.

2012 sticks solidly in my mind, especially the mad celebrations after it, a repeat of that feeling would be very much welcome right now.

One of the heroes of that night, Gary Cahill, has opened up about it ahead of the final, and he also makes an interesting prediction about Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea moving forward in the future.

Cahill believes that winning the UCL this season could springboard Chelsea back to the top and challenging for Premier League titles once again.

As reported by The Daily Star, Cahill said:

“They were very good in two games against Real Madrid. They have strengths – youthfulness, energy, quality, confidence.

“Players who look like they believe they should be on that stage. It’s an exciting time to be a Chelsea fan, to see this young team grow.

“You grow together in big moments. And there’s no bigger moment than a Champions League final. I see a huge future ahead for this team.

“Winning in 2012 gave me that hunger, and the feeling of how incredible it is to win trophies and be successful.

“It was almost like an addiction. You wanted more. You wanted it again and again. I think that was built into me after that, and into the squad for sure.

“It was a springboard to go on and be successful. You have to buy into that at Chelsea. Winning is a big part of what they do.

“We came back to the hotel and the room erupted [after winning in 2012]. All the families were already there.

“The drinks were flowing, me and Didier jumping in the pool with our clothes on… Moments I’ll never forget. Amazing times.”
