Chelsea interest in Juventus star could spell long-term formation change

Chelsea were so busy in the transfer market last summer that it’s hard to imagine that it’s almost that time again.

But we’ve got a new manager in place now, who will want players of his own choosing to complement the existing squad, and once we’ve managed to sell some of our excess squad players, we can get serious about who we might buy.

Caughtoffside have a translated report from CalcioMercato in Italy which puts Chelsea alongside Barcelona as teams interested in Adrien Rabiot, the former PSG academy star now playing for Juventus.

It’s easy to see the potential appeal for Thomas Tuchel – Rabiot could fit in as a slightly more dynamic version of Jorginho alongside N’Golo Kante in the middle of a 343.

On the other hand, once he’s had a chance to buy the players he wants, perhaps Tuchel will be moving away from that formation anyway.

We will know a lot more in just a few weeks, when the window opens.
