Tuchel compares Loftus-Cheek to Michael Ballack and makes it clear he understands his talent

Thomas Tuchel wasn’t in charge when Chelsea decided their loan strategy earlier this season, but given the situation they’re in now, he might wish he had been.

N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are playing every game at the moment, with Mateo Kovacic out injured. Meanwhile Tuchel clearly doesn’t fancy Billy Gilmour as an alternative.

Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek would be the obvious alternatives, but both were loaned out to Premier League opposition this season.

Tuchel was asked about RLC in his press conference this afternoon, and made some very flattering comments, comparing him to Michael Ballack and making it very clear that he’s aware of the midfielder and his skillset.

Of course we’re all getting far too excited about some throwaway comments, but just the idea that Tuchel has thought about the academy product at all is enough to give us a little thrill of hope that the fan favourite can be involved in the first team squad once again next season.
