Thomas Tuchel’s unconvincing excuses over Tammy Abraham

Chelsea are in action against Manchester City in the FA Cup semi final today, and things are going well.

The Blues are creating chances, but they’re without a true striker, and later in the game one feels they might need one, if they’re unable to break through or if they find themselves behind.

One person who won’t be getting on the pitch is Tammy Abraham, who has been left out of the squad. That’s despite the fact that this competition has 9 subs names and 5 used.

Asked to explain what is really a pretty staggering omission, Thomas Tuchel wasn’t revealing much. He said that Abraham has “lost a little bit of confidence recently,” – is that any surprise given he can’t even get in the matchday squad?

This story is moving quickly, and we can only imagine that the atmosphere behind the scenes isn’t great at the moment. Tuchel said it’s a “hard decision” to leave him out – in that case, why not just play him?
