It’s been a week without a Thomas Tuchel press conference, and to be honest we had started to miss him while everyone was away on international duty.
He came back with a bang in the presser today however, and was as open and engaging as ever. One potentially tricky subject put on the table for him was Timo Werner, who missed an absolute sitter for Germany in the week.
Rather than let any speculation hang in the air, Tuchel just came out and said it right away – Werner will start tomorrow. That must be a weight off the forward’s shoulders, knowing he has the boss’s backing.
Tuchel says Werner will start vs West Brom. He tried to do extra finishing training but Tuchel sent him in because he believes he already knows how to finish…

Tuchel then used a fun metaphor about trying to get a girlfriend, implying that Werne’s attempts to do extra finishing training actually might be counterproductive, and he would be better off just relaxing and letting the goals come to him.
We will find out tomorrow at lunchtime just how effective that strategy is.
